Air Partner has once again flown white-tailed sea eagle chicks from Norway to Scotland as part of a major reintroduction project.
The 16 eaglets arrived in Edinburgh on a chartered Metroliner and are now in secret aviaries. Air Partner’s freight team ensured the cabin temperature was maintained at14°C for the two hour flight from Alesund.
Now in its fifth year, the reintroduction programme is a partnership between RSPB Scotland, Scottish Natural Heritage and Forestry Commission Scotland. Affectionately known as ‘flying barn doors’ due to their eight foot wing span, white-tailed eagles became extinct in the UK in the early 19th century. The initiative aims to return the species to its former range in Scotland.
This latest arrival of sea eagles, gifted to Scotland from Norway, received an official welcome last Friday (June 24) from Stewart Stevenson, the Scottish Government’s Minister for Environment and Climate Change, and Norwegian Consul Mona Røhne.
Lindon Cooper, an Air Partner freight analyst, commented: “Air Partner frequently moves animals and birds, and flying sea eagle chicks is repeat business for us. It is an honour to fly such precious live cargo. The flight went smoothly and the eaglets had the shortest and most comfortable transfer possible. We look forward to the day when they will take to the skies using their own power.”

Air Partner, which celebrates its 50th anniversary next month, has sent a 12-strong delegation to this year’s Air Cargo Europe exhibition and conference where it is showcasing the company’s new eye-catching freight stand. The three day event in Munich, Germany, started today (May 10).
The new trade display features an image of the world’s only Antonov 225 operated by Ukrainian airline Antonov Airlines. It is pictured being loaded with 145 tonnes of humanitarian aid and relief equipment when the company chartered the giant jet for a mission to Japan following the devastating earthquake and tsunami in March.
In recent months, Air Partner Freight has expanded its teams in the UK, USA, UAE and Germany. New members being introduced to the industry during ACE are Emily Brient and Mark Turner from the UK and Stefanie Müller from Germany. Buyers and suppliers are invited to meet the team and enjoy a celebratory drink at the Air Partner stand 421 in Hall A4.
“Air Partner Freight has had a remarkable start to 2011,” said Richard Smith, Group Freight Director. “Our Turkish operation celebrated its first anniversary in February with sales that exceeded expectations and our expansion in key geographic markets continues. Additionally, organising charter flights to carry a wide range of supplies to areas around the world affected by natural disasters and political unrest continues to keep us busy 24/7.”
Currently, Air Partner has freight teams in seven worldwide locations: UK, Germany, France, Turkey, the USA, Japan, Hong Kong and the UAE. Expansion into new markets, including India and China, is planned.
ACE runs alongside the Transport Logistics event from May 10-13. They make up the biggest exhibition of logistics companies in the world and take place once every two years.

Air Partner evacuations on behalf of governments and corporates since January 2011:
In a period when far-reaching and unprecedented political upheaval has coincided with devastating natural disasters Air Partner has been working around the clock to organise humanitarian aid flights, and international rescue flights to evacuate more than 12,000 people from across the world in just six weeks.
The Emergency Planning and Ops24 teams, together with on-call broker specialists, have been pooling their knowledge and resources to secure suitable aircraft for the evacuations and aid flights involving Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, New Zealand, and Japan. The Air Partner teams have also negotiated flight slots, fuel, aircraft handling and visa permissions as well as post-evacuation onward travel.
Specifically, Air Partner’s work has included:
Japan
Following the earthquake and tsunami that devastated Japan over the weekend, Air Partner organised the Boeing 767 flight that left Manchester for Japan on Saturday 12 March. Fifty-nine UK fire service search and rescue specialists, two rescue dogs and a medical support team were dispatched alongside up to 11 tonnes of specialist rescue equipment, including heavy lifting and cutting equipment to save people who are trapped in debris. Air Partner’s Germany office operated a Boeing 747 flight into Nagoya on Monday 14 March on behalf of a number of German-based companies, including car manufacturers, to bring staff home. The flight carrying 477 expatriates will return today (Tuesday 15 March), landing at Hanover.
New Zealand
On Saturday 12 March, Air Partner organised a Boeing 747 freighter flight that flew to New Zealand from Europe. The aircraft carried 7,500 sanitation facilities weighing nine tonnes following the earthquake last month, which severely damaged the sewage and drainage system in Christchurch.
Tunisia
During the Tunisian demonstrations in mid-January, Air Partner’s evacuation specialists responded quickly to source aircraft to move personnel out of harm’s way in spite of challenging operational circumstances. Separately, in the immediate aftermath of the Libyan crisis, in just six days Air Partner organised 37 freight and passenger charters on behalf of DFID. In total, Air Partner repatriated more than 6,000 displaced Egyptians and 500 Bangladeshis on 34 flights from Tunisia to Egypt and flew 220 tonnes of humanitarian aid into Tunisia on three flights.
Libya
When trouble flared in Libya, all normal communications and aviation practices broke down. Aircraft, crews and their insurance companies were reluctant to provide cover to operate there; and obtaining authorisation for aircraft to enter Libyan airspace, land and leave was extremely difficult and time-consuming. Despite this, Air Partner operated a dozen Libya rescue flights into the UK, several on behalf of the UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO), and organised another into France. Seven of the flights operated into and out of Tripoli, including the first two rescue missions to the UK carried out for BP and another major oil conglomerate seeking to safeguard their overseas employees. The other flights operated to Malta to repatriate people who had fled from Libya to the conflict-free island.
Egypt
Air Partner flew in excess of 3,000 people to safety in the space of six days in groups ranging from four people to 222 using private jets and commercial airliners. Passengers were flown to a range of destinations including the UK, Dubai, France and Germany. Clients included governments as well as major energy companies, financial institutions and telecommunications conglomerates, who were concerned about staff safety.

Air Partner, a leading provider of aviation services to industry, commerce, governments and individuals worldwide, is celebrating the first anniversary of its operations in Turkey.
The company, which marks its 50th year of trading this year, expanded its market reach with the opening of a new base in Istanbul at the beginning of 2010 as part of its on-going strategy to expand into key geographic markets. Currently, the Air Partner Group has 20 offices spanning Europe, the US, the Middle East and Far East.
Air Partner Turkey’s performance has already exceeded expectations and is headed by Country Manager Serkan Topcu, formerly from cargo logistics company Schenker Logistics. In line with the company’s policy of engaging local specialists with global expertise, his team includes Charter Sales Manager Emir Ozdabak, Broker Analyst Cag Caglar and Commercial Manager Gunnes Nomaler. All have strong aviation charter backgrounds and have played an important role in the development of Air Partner’s existing and new business in the Turkish region.
“We are delighted that Air Partner is already positioned as a reliable and recognised brand in the Turkish charter market, providing a vital link between Air Partner’s established operations in Europe and emerging markets in the Middle East,” said Serkan.
Air Partner’s Commercial Jets and Freight aircraft charter divisions have seen excellent expansion in Turkey.
New commercial jet airliner charter business has been generated from key growth sectors, including the inclusive tour industry for the movement of passenger groups using Boeing 737s and Airbus A300, A310 and A320s. Aircraft leasing has also been a successful area of business.
Freight activity has largely focused on supporting the automotive sector and contracts have included flying urgently needed car parts from Turkey to Sweden and moving tyres from the UK into Turkey. However, flights have also been organised to carry construction materials to the Middle East, aircraft engines for AOG airliners and textiles from Asia to Europe.
Richard Smith, Air Partner’s Director of Group Freight, said: “Having first-rate connections with Turkish aircraft operators for both freight and commercial jets has been extremely valuable in setting up this local office. We anticipate further growth in oil and gas projects to the Middle East and Caspian regions and Turkey especially is a gateway into these significant new, rapidly emerging territories.”
Looking ahead, Kevin Ducksbury, Director of Middle East and Asia, said Air Partner Turkey will now apply greater significance on promoting the company’s Private Jets products and services, including the ad hoc charter of executive aircraft and the company’s all-inclusive JetCard membership scheme.

Private jet travellers enjoy private terminals, fast-track security, customised catering, as well as a wide range of luxurious aircraft.
In fact, sometimes the most important choice in private jet travel is the aircraft on which the passenger flies. For a frequent traveller the choice may be simple, but for an inexperienced flier selecting the appropriate private jet is one of the most important decisions to make.
This is when the invaluable knowledge and experience of a private jet broker is essential. A broker can help you to select the suitable private jet to suit your exact needs in terms of both comfort and operational efficiency.
There are several types of private jets available, ranging from turboprops to midsize aircraft to VIP airliners. And when a broker is evaluating your travel, they will consider the following questions:
Once these questions are answered, a broker will carefully select options from the following private jet categories:
Turboprops - An economic alternative for short sectors. These aircraft have pressurised cabins and offer great short-field performance, which enables more airports to be utilised.
Very light jets (VLJs) – An entry-level range of private jets, the VLJs offer great rates in quiet, modern cabins. This type of aircraft is ideal for flights up to 2 hours.
Light jets - This category features a wide range of small private jets seating from five to eight passengers. These have well-appointed cabins and are a popular category. Range can vary from two to three hours.
Midsize jets - Improved headroom and a separate washroom define these jets. Most seat eight passengers with a range of three to five hours. Some models offer a flight attendant.
Super midsize jets - These aircraft offer the benefits of larger jets at more competitive rates. Full standing headroom, great luggage capacity and spacious cabins make these popular. Seating varies from eight to 10 and the range of these aircraft is 5 to 6.5 hours.
Large jets - These aircraft have spacious cabins, offering six to nine hours range and seating for eight to 16 in first-class style. Full standing headroom, galley and in-flight service are standard. The luggage hold can accommodate 15 to 20 pieces.
Global jets - Large executive jets with intercontinental capabilities. Full standing headroom, galley and in-flight service are standard. The luggage hold can accommodate 15 to 20 pieces.
VIP airliners - The ultimate in private jet travel. These airliners have been converted to all VIP first-class executive seating. They are popular for heads of state, offering comfort and luxury with sleeping arrangements.
Whatever yours requirements, it is ideal to understand your aircraft options prior to flying. Becoming familiar with the aircraft you charter will ensure you have a more smooth and comfortable flight.

Air Partner Freight will have an international multi-lingual presence at this week’s TIACA Air Cargo Forum in Amsterdam.
Freight specialists from its offices in the UK, France, Germany and Turkey are attending the three day event to reinforce the message that airlines and other aviation industry suppliers are just as important to the company as its clients.
Richard Smith, Air Partner’s Director of Group Freight, will join his team on Stand 419 in Hall 10 where visitors will be introduced to the new London Gatwick-based trainee freight analyst Mark Turner.
Clive Chalmers, who was appointed UK Freight Manager in September on completion of an intensive two-year cross-division management training scheme, said: “This year our International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) team is tasked with reinforcing the confidence suppliers have in our bespoke, speedy and cost-effective services. The relationships Air Partner has with its suppliers and customers are of equal importance. Our TIACA delegation is looking forward to fostering those supplier relationships and to building new contacts across the industry worldwide.”
Despite the global economic downturn, Air Partner’s Air Freight division has seen significant growth in market share for cargo aircraft charter. Sales for the 12 months to July this year rose 178 per cent to £55.7million compared to the same period in 2009. New freight offices opened in Hong Kong and Turkey while further expansion into new territories is planned. And, against fierce competition, the company has just won a four-year tender to be the sole provider of freight air charter services for the UK Government’s Department for International Development (DFID).
The three day TIACA Air Cargo Forum starts tomorrow (November 2).

On time. On budget. Every time. In today’s increasingly competitive business world these three phrases mean everything. They are also the reason why corporations and governments worldwide utilise cargo aircraft charter to ensure the timely and secure delivery of their goods.
With air cargo charter the client has the invaluable benefit of control. Clients choose the aircraft (anything from a light cabin Learjet to the giant Antonov 225), airports and the schedule for their shipment.
For industries such as the automotive trade, where ‘just in time’ delivery of supplies drives ongoing production and profitability, the use of air freight charter is widespread. When speed and reliability are vital to keep the threat of lost production penalties away, investment in air cargo charter can quickly pay for itself.
But whilst air freight charter is commonly known for transporting urgent business goods, there is a wide array of instances in which air cargo charter provides an efficient and valuable transport solution.
Aircraft on Ground (AOG)
An AOG occurs when serious maintenance issues prevent an aircraft from flying. In this situation there is typically a rush to acquire the necessary replacement parts that will put the aircraft back into service and prevent delays. Many major airlines use air freight charter to provide an efficient and economical response to an AOG. A charter flight can be dispatched extremely quickly to move anything from small spares to large airframe and/ or technical staff. It is a proven, cost-effective solution that ensures airlines save on schedule disruption, passenger inconvenience, crew expenses and reputation.
Relief and Humanitarian Aid
When natural and man-made disasters occur, the ability to quickly deliver relief and humanitarian aid can make the difference between life and death. Air cargo charter is used worldwide by organisations such as the UN, EU, NATO and leading NGOs such as the Red Cross to provide flexible, rapid deployments into difficult areas. In many cases, these air freight charters are the first on scene with life-saving assistance and urgent supplies.
Oil well Equipment
The oil and gas industry is known for its unique demands, including the movement of oversize, hazardous and highly urgent cargo. Air freight charter brokers can provide the specialist experience to meet the specific demands of this industry, and can offer air cargo solutions in as little as one hour to keep production moving.
High Value Cargo
High-value items such as artwork, currency or election ballots require an uncompromising level of security and confidentiality. With air freight charter, clients know that their precise and discreet requirements will be met. Additional services can include anything from crew selection and airside supervision to the provision of dedicated couriers to travel onboard the aircraft with the consignment.
Dangerous Goods
Specialised air freight charter is sometimes the only way to transport dangerous goods with the necessary degree of security and safety.
Outsize Freight
The carriage of outsized air freight and heavy cargo requires expertise and forward planning. Air freight charter specialists understand freight aircraft capabilities, costing structures and global availabilities to meet any requirement. They can also identify the most suitable airfields to minimise surface transfers, secure handling equipment and the best aircraft for a clients’ budget.
