The company, which marks its 50th year of trading this year, expanded its market reach with the opening of a new base in Istanbul at the beginning of 2010 as part of its on-going strategy to expand into key geographic markets. Freight activity has largely focused on supporting the automotive sector and contracts have included flying urgently needed car parts from Turkey to Sweden and moving tyres from the UK into Turkey. Air Partner, a leading provider of private aviation services worldwide, has promoted Simon Wheatley to the position of UK Manager of its Private Jets Division.
Simon joined the company in 1998 as a member of the ServicePlus support team within the Commercial Jets division. He quickly progressed into a charter broker role and gained four years’ experience organising flights to move groups of every size using airliners with 20-500 seats. In 2002 he moved into a similar position within the Private Jets division, which offers ad hoc and JetCard charters on private and VIP aircraft, and became a PJ team leader in 2006.
“I have been involved with the broadest range of charter missions imaginable over the last 12 years ranging from financial road-shows, flights for royalty and organ transplant emergencies to product launches for thousands of guests and evacuations from war zones and impending natural disasters. In my new managerial position I look forward to putting all this experience to good use and will focus on our core strengths as a team to drive the company forward,” said Simon.

Air Partner plc has launched an ‘empty sectors’ consumer website, www.emptysectors.com, enabling potential private jet users to book flights on aircraft that would otherwise operate without passengers. The website locates real-time availability on private jets worldwide, by sector and aircraft, at prices up to 75 per cent lower than conventional charter rates. For example, a six-seat private jet hire from London to Cannes, for the French Riviera, for £3,000.
An empty sector (or empty leg) occurs when a pre-booked revenue charter has been reserved for a one-way flight only, either outbound or return. The operator will need to either position the aircraft to collect the passengers for a return or bring the aircraft back to its original location having flown the passengers to their chosen destination (leaving an empty sector on the return flight).
