27 Oct 10 UNIQLO’s Autumn/Winter Ultra-Light Down Collection

UNIQLO’s new Ultra Light Down collection is perfect for keeping you warm and cosy during the transitional season. Designed to meet the demands for clothing that is adaptable to sudden changes in temperature, Ultra Light Down outerwear is lighter than ever before. Made with super strong Nylon and 90% premium down, meaning they are a feather-light 206 grams (the same as a summer blouse), these garments can be packed away in the carry case provided for easy travel.

Ultra Light Down debuted last year in 2009, but thanks to UNIQLO’s strict product development process, the technology has undergone further development with Toray Industries to reduce the weight from 270 grams to 206 grams. Ordinary down jackets are comprised of a 2-layer structure where the down is packed into an outer fabric shell, where the down is stitched in. UNIQLO’s Ultra Light Down has been subjected to heat and pressure to mesh the threads of the Nylon outer layer so the down can’t escape. This process eliminates the need to tightly pack the down, resulting in a reduction in weight. Crowds queued up from 6am outside UNIQLO’s New York Soho store on Thursday 7 October to purchase the new Autumn/Winter 2010 +J collection. Last Thursday 14 October saw the highly anticipated UK launch.

The early morning line in New York City was a sure indicator that this season’s +J collection is in huge demand. Despite the rain, the crowds continued to grow throughout the day, proving once again that Jil Sander’s minimalist yet carefully detailed designs partnered with UNIQLO’s affordable prices are a win-win for everyone.

The +J Autumn Winter 2010 collection was available in the UK from 10am on Thursday October 14 at the following UNIQLO stores; 311 Oxford St, Westfield London, Selfridges London (menswear only) and the latest addition to the UNIQLO store portfolio in Bluewater, Kent. The countdown has begun to Thursday 14 October and the UK launch of the latest much anticipated +J collection.

16 Sep 10 Announcing Lucky Machine; UNIQLO’s Prize Winning Online Game to Celebrate the Imminent Launch of the New UNIQLO Ecommerce Website, at 9am on 09/09

In the run-up to their ecommerce website relaunch, on 9 September 2010, UNIQLO have developed two new social media initiatives; LUCKY COUNTER, which hands over control of their best selling items to their customers, and LUCKY MACHINE, a pinball flash-based game offering players the chance to win huge prizes and online UNIQLO discounts.

Online pinball machine game LUCKY MACHINE will offer customers the chance to win a £1,000 cash prize, as well as online discount vouchers from £5 up to £100. There are three stages of play and each customer is given three balls. To get more balls, players simply have to invite their friends to play the game via Facebook or Twitter. The more friends you invite, the more chance you have at winning! LUCKY MACHINE will launch on the same day as the new UNIQLO ecommerce website and will run until October 1, 2010, with the discount codes issued valid until the end of November. The game will be available to play online at www.uniqlo.com.

UNIQLO launched Twitter initiative LUCKY COUNTER on 3 September and this will run until the new website launches on 9 September. Customers are invited to Tweet about selected items to reduce the cost; the more Tweets, the more customers can save on the price! All Twitter users have to do is simply visit the LUCKY COUNTER website at www.uniqlo.com, select their item and follow the instructions to Tweet. Customers will even be able to see the price dynamically change in real-time. The final reduced prices of these UNIQLO best selling items will be announced on the day of the ecommerce website relaunch, on 9 September, when customers will be able to browse and buy from 9am. The reduced prices will be available until 13 September.

The relaunch of the ecommerce website is the latest landmark in UNIQLO’s UK development strategy. This year also sees the opening of the first store outside of London in Bluewater on October 2, 2010.

Following the launch of UNIQLO’s Fashion UK YouTube channel, the video platform has hosted the release of three Autumn Fashion videos. The three videos star the 6 competition winners of UNIQLO UK’s styling campaign, which integrated the social media platforms Twitter and Facebook, then later YouTube.

Each video offers styling advice from UNIQLO’s in-house stylist for the latest fashions this autumn. The first video was launched on 13th August 2010 and offers guidance on student fashion. The primary focus lies in showing people that shopping on a budget doesn’t have to be difficult and you can still keep up-to-date with all the latest fashions. Featuring some of the season’s must-have items, the video shows that college and university clothing can be stylish.

The second video was launched on 23rd August 2010 and is heavily focused around denim trends and casual clothing this autumn. UNIQLO’s stylist Scott shows 2 competition winners the various styles of jeans available and how to select the most appropriate for their taste and figure. The video also features some of the season’s hottest shirts with styles including the popular flannel shirt.

The final video was launched on 1st September 2010 and features some of UNIQLO’s new-in work clothing. Previously distinguished by their unique casual clothing styles, UNIQLO has started to expand their reach with the introduction of smart clothes alongside fashion and designer collections. Scott styles the final 2 competition winners in smart clothes whilst offering tips for how to keep individuality and still look smart for work.

The initial campaign sparked an increase in the fashion brand’s social media interaction and is already seeing a large number of visitors to the YouTube channel. Hoping to expand on this, UNIQLO are planning more social media initiatives in the near future.

UNIQLO today announce a new Twitter initiative to reward their loyal Twitter and Facebook followers, promote their new Autumn Winter 2010 collection and increase SEO opportunities.

Fans of the UNIQLO brand are being offered the chance to star in a short fashion film, highlighting that keeping up with the latest trends at uni, in the workplace or at the weekend, does not have to mean being out of pocket.

The competition details are promoted on Facebook and entry is via Twitter, where entrants are invited to tell UNIQLO in no more than 140 characters why they should be styled and given a new look. They can even include a link to a short video of themselves or a photograph.

Finalists will be selected and notified for the initial casting on 22 July, before the six lucky winners are chosen to be filmed and styled on 26 July, each winning a £100 spending spree in the UNIQLO flagship store on Oxford Street.
